The WJC 2009 is underway folks!! The Russians won the worlds last year over the Canadians…5-4. Can they win the juniors? Probably not but they are the first game today against Latvia…going on right now live and you can see that on Hockey Webcasts.
I always look forward to the first few games…..sure Canada is the prohibitive favorite but I want to see which countries can make that push or challenge. Can the US make a run? Or will it be Sweden or Finland? There are four or five teams that could make a case besides Canada. Of course Canada has the wunderkind known as John Tavares who may have scored one of the nicest goals I have ever seen on Tuesday night in an exhibition game.
Now to throw a curve is the transit strike in Ottawa. Here is more on it thanks to the fine folks at sportsology. It is not fun to have to negotiate Ottawa and Kanata without the benefit of bus or train. So fans will have a challenge getting to the games but I believe they will rise up to that challenge. This is the World Juniors after all…..fans will find a way to get there and see their teams. They always do!
So if you are sitting at home enjoying vacation time or whatever…..turn on the hockey game…turn it up! Almost a week and a half of juniors hockey combined with NHL action. If you are not pumped up for this….I do not know what to tell you folks!!! Game on!!!!
