Valentine’s Day Recap

Sitting back in my chair comfortably watching another nice Sunny day unfold, I think back to my East Coast friends who battle either ice, snow or both this morning. My brother, who has the day off of work, called to let me know that the Yotes are going to sign Shane Doan to a new contract very soon. I was kind of hoping the Devils would get him but cap-wise, that isn’t realistic….drats. As I was sipping my cider…he hit me with something out of the blue….so what did you get your wife for Valentine’s? When I told him a Dr. Pepper…I think he nearly fell off the floor….I swore at the very least I heard the phone drop. He then asked is that all you got her? Of course not, I made her a home cooked romantic Italian meal last night. To which he laughed, because he spent nearly 100 dollars on his wife and my mom taking them out to you guessed it…an Italian restaurant last night….oops!

My brother pondered about the Devils of course…he loves sports not as much as I do but he is just as fanatical about his hockey team. Shooting names across the phone lines like an auctioneer…I tried to think if the Devils could even afford these players or if they are even going to be traded. However, it is always amusing and interesting at the same time with my brother. Yes, he is older but sometimes not the wiser. The one name that keeps sticking is Knuble. There is a considerable amount of chatter that he is saying one thing to the press and another behind closed doors. So he may be on the market come the deadline. My brother may be right about that one. We both agreed that the Devils need offense…but they just really need the players that are supposed to score…to score consistently…and that is the bottom line. With that, the Devils are cup contenders and without, they are dead in the water….plain and simple. Last nite, they had the offense on the power play and nailed it at least for one nite….winning 5-2. Though White, Madden, and Gionta are injured….I think they have a great shot at stopping the Pens tomorrow.

The bro then summed it up by saying this….something so small makes your wife that happy….and I was like sure…it was better than watching her Ducks lose last night. It doesn’t take much to please your mate on Valentine’s Day…just be yourself and hope she loves sports like you do. I am a very lucky man.
