Sheldon Souray has finally found a home.
The former Canadiens defenseman has agreed to terms with the Edmonton Oilers. The contract will pay Souray 27 million dollars over the next 5 years, for a cap hit of 5.4 million dollars a year.
Better late than never, Kevin Lowe makes his UFA splash. Souray is a good PP quarterback with suspect defensive lapses. He is however, tough in front of the net and around the boards.
It brings up the question: Are the Oil going for a run and gun offense ala Buffalo, or is this all Lowe could scrounge up at the last minute? This, like the Vanek contract, is one we’re just going to have to wait and see on.
Rumors have it that he’ll be paired with Piktanen. You can find more information at The NHL Arena
