Shaping Out In Ottawa

Things have finally started shaping out in Canada’s capital. The Ottawa Senators made a great trade today shipping out Peter Schaefer, who was a very weak forward, and brought in a forward who is cheaper and has a bit more grit; Shawn Donovan.

Another great factor of this deal is that the sens now have cap space to keep Ray Emery away from arbitration, and award him the contract of his needs.

Peter Schaefer defenitely had an off year, and it showed during the playoffs along the boards, where he was shoved and pressured by big defensemen. He constantly gave up the puck, and it started the transition the other way, where he didn’t backcheck hard enough.

Shaun Donovan was a player who I didn’t watch much this year, but what I saw when he was in Calgary was quite impressive.

Good move by sens all-around.
