What does a Devil fan do when his team is off for three days? Ah yes that’s a very good question. Granted I have work today and such…but tomorrow and Tuesday there is an interview with one of my old East Coast hockey buddies…some Center Ice…and some good home cooking. Most importantly my wife is also off tomorrow and Tuesday. Our schedules are so screwed up that the two hockey fans hardly get to see each other.
Yes I know she is a Ducks fan…but she does have a very solid knowledge of hockey….and it is always refreshing to talk to her about it. So I am sure her and I will have our little Monday evening hockey discussion which always turns into the I am glad we didn’t resign Niedermayer rant…and for her its the I wish we had tried to get Jason Blake. It is funny yet informative. She is the one that got me into Puck Podcasts out here. They are two guys…one a Kings fan and one a Ducks fan talking hockey every Monday night. Their show has a lot of substance and just a little dash of flash….nothing overly fancy. For the most part, that is all I really need…some meat and potatoes hockey discussion.
I thought she was joking when they said they wanted to do an interview with me before the playoffs. I do have a unique perspective living on the East Coast and on the West now. So that helps. What I have been doing is…getting some extensive hockey research done….and more importantly just trying to be myself with this. That and pray my own mental seven second delay works.
Back to the hockey stuff….the biggest thing when the Devils come out against Pittsburgh Wednesday is guarding against the flat first period….everyone knows what happened the last time these two teams met and the Devils were at home…they fell behind 3-0 and 5-2 before storming back to make a game of it…..falling 5-4. Hopefully the Devs get some bodies back because they can’t keep playing with 15 or 16 skaters…because in all honesty that tires everyone else out and on top of it makes those players more apt to get injured. The last thing the Devils need is more injuries.
