Monday Ice Water Cooler

Today’s picture comes from Big Bear Lake …..almost 7000 feet up in Southern California. If there is one lake you should ever go to…this may be it. Hiking, fishing, and mountain biking and well so much more. Yes I’m spoiled! That being said….time for the water cooler!!

The first full week of the hockey season has come and gone…and damn I am getting antsy to see The NHL Network. According to the Time Warner rep I spoke to today, it is supposed to be coming at the middle or end of the month. The agony of waiting is bad because as Tom Petty says, “Waiting is the hardest part.” But from what little I have seen of the channel, I do like what I see very much. So hopefully its coming soon.

Anyone doubt Paul Stastny and Zach Parise now?? I didn’t think so. Stastny has looked Sakic-esque so far and Parise is looking like the scorer Elias should be. Granted both are in very good scoring situations but they are producing well above expectations. The not quite top 10 wingers are coming soon….expect a few more surprises….and yes, some will not hit but most will.

Defensemen are turning aplenty. Bryan Berard has just been signed by the Isles. NHL.com reports him on the roster and WFAN has just confirmed the story. Mike Van Ryn was a healthy scratch in Saturday’s 4-1 loss to the Devils. Van Ryn may be in Florida’s doghouse already though really it isn’t all his fault. Paul Mara (another 3 million $ d-man) is in the Rangers doghouse though most expect this not to be a precursor to a Jovocop trade. Yes Sather is trying to pry him from Phoenix but Maloney will not bite especially to Sather given the history between the two.

Now of course I am off from work tomorrow and sadly there is only one game on tomorrow…….but it is on VS and RSN…so Americans and Canadians will get to see what should be a pretty solid matchup between two teams who can put shots on net. Sundin vs. Staal….Ward Vs. Toskala…..it is definitely Tivo worthy….but I do expect Toronto to pull this out…4-3…maybe in OT. These are two teams I think will be battling for a playoff spot come April.

Finally, with hockey still in its infancy stages of the season…I am still looking for some bloggers for The NHL Arena Program. If you’re interested, just drop me an email at stevens8204@gmail.com. Have a great week.
