Mike Smith Receives NHL Honors.

It was announced today that Mike Smith has been named the NHL third star of the week. ending Feb 11.

This is Mike’s second honor this season, the last one he was also name the NHL Third Star of the week back on Nov 26.

In the last 3 games Mike Smith has played is he 3-0-0 and collected a career high of 131.06 shutout minutes. He took over for Marty Turco against the Wild in a 4-2 win where he did not allow a score. He got the call against the Ducks and shut them down which was his third career shut out. All coming this season by the way. He then replaced Marty again in the game against Colorado where the Stars win 7-5. He played roughly around 30 mins in this game and stopped 12 of 14 shots to secure the win.

Between the three games he is 59 of 61 shots with a .967 save percentage and allowed 2 goals in 142 minutes of play which is a 0.85 goals against average.

He is now 8-3-0 when he is between the pipes. The Stars could not ask for more from a backup Goalie in his rookie season.
