Henrik Lundqvist or Rick DiPietro?
Boltman from the Atlanta Thrashers board posted this question regarding Ilya Kovalchuk and Vincent Lecavalier and it got me to thinking. Here in the Atlantic Division one of the Rangers biggest rivals are the New York Islanders. Both teams have outstanding Goalies and both teams are battling for first place in the Division. So which Goalie is better? Before you answer, here are some stats for the last 3 years.
Head to head this season Rick DiPietro has taken all 3 games played, with a GAA of 1.33 and a total of 4 goals against. While Lundqvist has lost all 3 games played with at GAA of 2.37 and a total of 7 goals against.
I’m taking off my Ranger hat for this one but I’m still going with Lundqvist. Granted the Rangers have a star studded team in front of him but on average he faces more shots and comes up with more saves. This year alone I’ve lost count of the games he’s basically saved by himself for the Rangers. This is not to discredit DiPietro, it is close, damn close.
So fans, give me your vote and as the saying goes, be prepared to back it up.
