Hockey Roundup — March 27th

HEADLINE GAME

New Jersey Devils @ New York Islanders 7:30pm EDT

The Devils travel to the NVMC for another road test with the Isles. Martin Brodeur loves facing the Isles on the road…2 shutouts and nearly a third in his last three. With Elias returning and Dipietro out with post concussion syndrome…this game takes on a different meaning but still…expect a low scoring game. These Atlantic division tilts tend to produce a lot of scoring chances though so even if its a 2-1 game…expect excitement. Come check out the GDT for all the carnage and mayhem.

THE TSN GAME………

Carolina Hurricanes @ Toronto Maple Leafs 7:30pm EDT FSS,TSN

84 pts meets a team with 84 pts. A pivotal game for both with so few left in the season. Both teams can score…and a battle between Sundin and Brind’amour is always tons of fun. The key is simple…can Andrew Raycroft conquer his home demons? If he can, the Leafs will get a very important two points tonight. I still do not see that urgency from the Canes even with that win over San Jose…..the Sharks almost came back from down 5-1. The action will be fierce and so will the debate be at the GDT.

One more big one for tonite…..well actually two.

Vancouver Canucks @ Colorado Avalanche 9pm EDT RSW,ALT

In a wild game the other night….Colorado outlasted Vancouver 5-4 in a shootout as the Avs made the Canucks play Avs hockey. Though Vancouver scored 4 times on 20 shots…they were caught many times trying to outgun the Avs which lead to numerous scoring chances all night for the Avs. Joe Sakic and Andrew Brunette made a killing and could again tonight if the Canucks aren’t a little more attentive in their own zone. The Sedin twins were good the last time out but it takes more than the twins to win..and the Canucks won’t come out like that again…so expect a nice tilt from the Pepsi Center and we have the GDT here at The Arena.

Calgary Flames @ Minnesota Wild 8pm EDT FPPV,KSTC

The Flames are only five points ahead of the Avs for the 8th and final playoff spot….the Wild are right in the neck of it with the Canucks for the division lead in the Northwest. Its a crucial game for both as Kiprusoff faces Backstrom in a great goaltending duel at the XCel Centre. The Wild are so good at home (26-6-4) and the Flames are so bad on the road (10-18-8). You know what…throw them records out the window because with precious few games left…both teams will come out firing with playoff intensity and that permeates every headline matchup. Iginla vs. Gaborik on offense…a matchup alone that is worth the price of admission. Come see the Flames and Wild fans get WILD on the GDT tonite. Funny thing is they do this again in a couple nights.

The rest of the games tonight and their GDT’s can all be caught on THE NHL ARENA.
