Fantasy Hockey 101: THE LSHL Draft.

Good morning….this surprise Fantasy Hockey 101 is brought to you commercial free by the big man, LS, himself. The LSHL draft takes place today at 1pm EDT. 23 teams paid $20 to see if they can beat the big man at his own game. There are some very interesting hockey minds in the draft. It will be even more intriguing to see what transpires in the draft. There will be a draft recap posted on The NHL Arena tomorrow.

This league is a points league with twists galore. Normal fantasy stats are important but there are more dynasty-like categories in this game. Note the point structure as follows…..

Point Structure:

  • goals = 1 pt
    shootout goals = 1 pt
    assists = 1 pt
    powerplay goals = 1pt
    overtime goals = 1pt

    +/- = 1 pt/-1pt
    game winning goals = 1 pt
    player of the week (1st star) = 3
    player of the week (2nd star) = 2
    player of the week (3rd star) = 1
    player of the month (1st star) = 3
    player of the month (2nd star) = 2
    player of the month (3rd star) = 1
    rookie of the month (1st star) = 3
    goaltender goals = 10 pts
    goaltender assists = 3 pts
    goaltender wins = 2 pts
    goaltender losses = -2 pts
    shutouts = 5 pts
    goaltender overtime losses = -1 pt
    goaltender loss in shootout = -1 pt
    1 goal against game = 3 pts
    2 goals against game =2 pts
    3 goals against game = 1 pt

What I enjoyed most is the negative point aspect….it will make some GM’s think twice before drafting some players at the very least. There are also 23 rounds and a 5 minute time limit for drafting. So this will be an afternoon spent in front of the computer….kind of an homage back to the old days before computer where you drafted live from someone’s house with beers and more beers and maybe some food too. This is a true man’s dynasty keeper league with expansion drafts and the whole nine yards.

So expect a fun gathering at The LSHL Draft this afternoon and see what strategies unfold. Guaranteed there will be some major surprises and maybe even some draft day trades perhaps. Good luck to all that joined.
