Ducks sign Mathieu Schneider

The FA signings started yesterday and the Anaheim Ducks signed former Detroit Redwings defencemen Mathieu Schneider to a 2 year contract.

Schneider was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the 3rd round of the 1987 Entry Draft and has played in the NHL for 18 years. He has played with New York Islanders, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings and the Detroit Redwings.

Burke decided to sign Schneider just incase Scott Niedermayer retires and Schneider is an insurance marker. Schneider’s salary will be $5.5 million next season and then $5.75 million in the last year of his contract.

Also tough winger Shawn Thornton signed as a free agent with the Boston Bruins.
