Don’t you feel tired of the 5697486 places that Peter Forsberg is or isn’t going to? I sure don’t….that is a given. Think about it…a playmate who did Trimspa commercials said this once…”Any press, even bad press, is good press.” Yes, that was none other than Anna Nicole Smith who sadly passed away last week. However, what she said couldn’t be any more true.
Just cruising around the normal blogs, podcasts, and nhl rumor sites this morning, a fan should see all the names just floating around with addresses unknown and uncertain come February 27th or sooner. Already some names have moved including Mr. Stuart and Mr. Nagy and more will be packing their bags soon, maybe even Knuble to the Devils. With parity so rampant in the NHL and so many teams having a shot to make the playoffs, no wonder GM’S are keeping things so tight to the vest. You would think they would need suspenders, belts, and maybe an extra long bungee cord to suck in a bit more so they don’t let out any secrets.
That being said, there is one thing missing. Turn on your tv or read your newspaper, more than likely hockey is stuck somewhere between Hades and a pebble in the back of your garage. Even most of the mainstreamed sports radio shows have drifted away from hockey. The average sports fan barely ever hears all this constant bantering as they are stuck with an endless diet of football, baseball and basketball, even Nascar. With hockey being on Versus and no NHL Network just yet, the chatter is confined to the die-hards who will ultimately decide the NHL’s future….not the league ironically.
Yes indeed…..we hockey diehards control this. As others have said….want more hockey press….we have to make it. Call your cable and satellite companies….get the NHL Network on the air. Call in to your sport radio shows…call often…spread hockey rumors…spark a conversation. Send comments in to shows like PTI who have a mail time segment…do things like that. Go on various forums, compare ideas with other hockey fans even. It would be nice to see what kind of difference this makes in two weeks when the trade deadline actually passes. Even better, would be great to see the hockey deadline be more than just a blip on most radar screens in the average joe’s sports diet.
Any press is good press folks…..spread the word and Viva Le Hockey!!!
