FIRST PERIOD Highlights…..
Devils dominated play for stretches….but Phoenix came out hitting. The Devils had a couple power plays and a few near misses. Brodeur was pretty solid in making 8 saves and Rod Pelley went airborne…you had to see it!! WOW!! Devs had 10 shots on goal…led by Zach Parise who had 3. All in all a pretty moribund period to a point as the Devils should have finished at least one on Tellqvist. Onward to the rest of the livecap….as the first got eaten by some angry, hungry internet trolls.
Time for Dano’s Corner…..
Pandolfo will not accompany the Devils on the Western Canada road trip…that would make 12 straight games he would be missing. Pelley has played really well and is reliable on the PK. Sure Dano wishes Zajac could score more but defensively in his own end is very accomplished. Good stuff indeed.
Second Period…….
10:58 — Hey they dropped the puck….who knew. Brodeur looked at the puck approaching him and laughed at it.
11:00 — Clarkson with a pretty dipsy do move but Tellqvist got it. Brookbank fires one in…and it flubs around before before Tellqvist dives on it. Asham drive…Tellqvist got it.
11:02 — OH JESUS!!! Sjostrom connects on a no look bandhand from Hanzal….Marty almost got it…..BUT NOT QUITE…..1-0 Phoenix. This feeling of indigestion brought to you by Pepto Bismol.
11:05 — Brookbank tries to get aggressive…Phoenix 2 on 1…Winnik gets the shot on…Brodeur bails the Devs out but Brookbank off for hooking. PHX Pp. Um Chico, the Devils are playing poorly. Nice that the Devils are giving Phoenix such confidence.
11:08 — Devils kill the PP….but wow a bad turnover….as Brodeur makes a nice save on Doan then Doan gets HAMMERED by Oduya (wait he has balls?)…..maybe that will wake the Devils up. Phx PP…thanks alot Oduya! Send him on the bus to Lowell already! Whoa….a flying Sjostrom…and he smashes into the boards (he lost an edge and that has to hurt)!
11:14 — Thank god for Pelley…he has been a hell of a penalty killer. Devils on even strength but Brodeur is just playing god right now…save after save. WAKE UP JERSEY!!
11:18 — Madden dips the shoulder….and moved quick….but Tellqvist was just plain better on that one! Tellqvist holds the puck off the slow Clarkson shot.
11:19 — Devils work hard and draw a penalty as Gionta and Zajac work hard in front of the net. Hanzal for hooking. The Devils just played everything but the net as I swear the puck flopped all around the crease….Tellqvist covers.
11:22 — Carcillo hops into the middle of an argument between Clarkson and Morris….no Phoenix penalty….oh well. Tellqvist likes to cover alot as the PP ends….a lot of shots..no goals. With 5:00 to go in the second…I can say this…I HATE BACKUPS! Slashing on Gionta…Phx PP.
11:28 — The artful dodger I mean Marty…as he saw the bank shot coming and got a piece of it to tap it up! Devils kill it off thanks mostly to Marty who is getting a nice workout today. Devs are just flat at times…Brookbank…wide open…HITS GLASS….hit net please.
11:33 — Lots of pressure nice…dumb penalty…not nice as Doan gets tripped by Mottau (not much of a trip) honestly…that was a dive! Phx PP nonetheless. After 2 I have to admit this is excessively frustrating….period over!
Third Period……….
11:51 — Back on the Pk….Coyotes are buzzing all over the place and the ping is Marty’s best friend…WHEW! Now the play stops…go figure..so Phoenix gets another shot.
11:53 — A hold on Vishnevski….eh it kinda looked like a sandwich….yet another PK…oy!
11:56 — Thank you Marty…you are saving us today…PP killed again! Devils go offside…and the fans have a right to boo!
Noon — Say goodnight! As Radim Vrbata scores as he flips it over that little opening. Marty couldn’t quite get his legs together. 2-0 Phoenix…give them credit…they have played hard today. This is sad…another penalty…and a shooting gallery ensues….here comes the cider!
12:03 — Martin Hanzal has 2 assists today and as a rookie he doesn’t play like one. Phx PP… Marty has no stick….crap!! Finally they clear it. Devils simply are getting outplayed at every turn…I can sense a Sutter outburst after the game. Langenbrunner in the box now for unsportsmanlike conduct. Marty gets a piece off that shot and the Devils clear (aside from the ping).
12:07 — Marty has been awesome today…as the 5 on 3 ends. Vrbata fires and Marty stops him this time!!
12:08 — Just bury your head in it!!! 3-0 Phoenix…as Marty makes the first save but no one can clear…and Sjostrom scores again…so 11 minutes left for the Devils…but eh this sucks!
12:14 — Carcillo gets clipped then goes postal….that should be a game right now as he strips away Jovocop to fight Clarkson. The officiating has been questionable all game….this just cements it!!! Phoenix gets a PP out of this somehow Madden gets tripped…yet no call….go figure!
12:19 — My NAME IS ZACH PARISE!!! As Parise scores off the Brylin garbage…..that is what you call cleaning up the trash….and its 3-1 Phoenix now. Btw how Jovanovksi does not get a penalty may be proof that Gretzky is paying someone off in the league offices.
12:20 — Alarm clock sounded! Here comes the Devils…one problem…4:00 to go. Parise just missed and Mottau smartly gives up the puck for get this…a Devils pp!!
12:23 — Zach Parise is the offensive MVP of this team..no doubt about it. Parise gets NAILED…no call….come on refs!! The bounces have not gone the Devs way today…Gionta had the net open but the puck trickled over the stick.
12:25 — Hanzal again!!…a nice feed by Sjostrom and Hanzal beats Marty on the short side…4-1 Phx on the shorthander….Hanzal has a 4 point day…though I only saw 3 officially. This game is over folks! Time to chug another cider….up to 5 on the recap already.
12:27 — Thank you Rod Pelley….as he SLAMS Jovanovski…..and Jovocop limps off like a broken man!
12:29 — This game is over mercifully…I can stop cursing and drinking. I blame this game strictly on my wife…I am allowed to every so often….UGH!
