Are Canadians Down And Out

The Montreal Canadiens are mostly living off goaltending and special teams this season. With Saku Koivu, Sergei Samsonov, Alexei Kovalev, Chris Higgins, Michael Ryder, and rookie Guillaume Latendrese some of the players who are struggling this season. Now Forward Alex Kovalev will miss three weeks with an elbow injury. The Canadiens are still awaiting word on goaltender Cristobal Huet, who left the game against New Jersey after sustaining a lower body injury. He was scheduled to meet with a physician yesterday.

Thursday goaltender Jaroslav Halak has been recalled from the Hamilton Bulldogs. But Montreal is looking more like a team that might active in the upcoming trade deadline. The habs have to remain strong to make the playoffs and from there, it is a seemingly impossible task to go far.

They need some performers and I wouldn’t be surprised if any of their other slumping stars are put on the trading block. Montreal may have to do something to turn the team around from the 5 game losing streak.
