Win 500 came in the place where win 48 of last season took place…right at the Wachovia Center. So to say Brodeur likes Philly may just be an understatement. He is after all 12-1-1 in his last 14 meetings with Philadelphia. That is some pretty impressive stuff. His record speaks for itself…500-273-105-15 with a 2.21 GAA and a .913 save percentage along with 92 shutouts.
There are so many accolades and awards and yes the win record will be the sweetest individual achievement…but Martin Brodeur wants another shot at the Stanley Cup. I don’t know about that…but one thing I have learned is never to doubt this guy. Just when you think the tank is starting to look empty, he just keeps on going. It is hard to put this into perspective but the next closest active goalie to Brodeur on the wins list is Dominik Hasek, and he is 133 wins away from 500. Hasek is far closer to retirement than Brodeur. That should speak volumes right there.
When you see a milestone like this…granted this will barely make a blip on SportsCenter but I know up on TSN they will have a bit more about it I am sure. I heard the Flyer fans boo again but hey, some just were more ticked off than anything else…can’t blame them at all for that. Alas, this was Marty’s night and the Devils were glad to help him out.
