This Day In Hockey History (1/11)

There are times on "This Day" where we laugh and chuckle for a good long time but I guess every team has to have their first player honored.  Look, Guy Hebert was not a bad guy or a bad player by any stretch but it was just one of those things where I guess they had to pick someone.  It was wise that they picked Hebert as some nights he seemingly was the only Duck that showed up.  Well here is a little video and moment from "This Day":

January 11, 2004

Goaltender Guy Hebert became the first former Mighty Ducks player to be honored by getting his name on the team's Wall of Fame, in a pre-game ceremony before an 2-2 tie against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

This Day In Hockey History (11/1)

It does seem that we are on a bit of a “firsts” kick here on The Program.  Since the first of the month is here, we went searching back and way back for a moment that would illustrate a fresh beginning of sorts.  The best part was we did not have to go very far at all.  One of the toughest little guys in the NHL provided today’s moment.  He went on to have a very nice NHL career indeed but it all started on a night 28 years ago for the St. Louis Blues.  Here is today’s moment and a video to go along for the ride.

November 01, 1983

St. Louis rookie Doug Gilmour scored the first goal of his NHL career. It came in the Blues’ 3-2 loss to the visiting Detroit Red Wings.

Though this player may not be well known, it is still cool to score all of your team’s goals and not in defeat.  This moment takes us back 30 years so enjoy.

Garry Unger scored all four Flames goals in a 4-3 win over the Quebec Nordiques, in Atlanta. It was the 10th (and final) career hat trick.

This Day In Hockey History (11/1)

There was a first that happened in Minnesota North Stars history just 24 years ago today.  It was by a player you would not expect to be a goal scorer but it did happen.  Here is the story err moment.  Fantasy recap and more coming later today.

November 01, 1986

One month into Minnesota’s 20th NHL season, Craig Hartsburg became the first defenseman in North Stars’ history to score a hat trick (the first of his NHL career). It came in a 6-5 home loss to Chicago.
