Classic Posts: Fantasy Miracles Do Happen…

Miracles do happen, here is a classic from 2007….may your Sunday bring a miracle comeback!

=============================================

Yes indeed there are times where all looks lost heading into a matchup on the weekend, you can find yourself down a ton with little prayer. Then all of a sudden out of nowhere….your team hits the gas pedal and before you know it, you wake up Monday Morning somehow winning that week. How does it happen? Is it karma? Is it some Sunday miracle? Well not really! It really can just be luck catching up to give a helping hand.

For example I was down 8-1 going into Saturday against the mighty Pogo…and it looked bleak…my goaltending (Brodeur, Lundqvist, and Backstrom) were average to abysmal all week and my scoring was just as bad aside from 1 good performance from Zach Parise and Shane Doan maybe. Then the weekend hit and while Pogo’s team went cold aside from some Paul Stastny character….my team caught just enough fire and some solid goaltending for a change to make the comeback complete. It also didnt hurt that my Sunday goaltending stats were this….1 win…0.49 GAA…1 shutout and an insane .982 save percentage. For the weekend the GAA was under 1 with 2 wins…that will get you somewhere when your team seems to be stuck going nowhere.

Honestly, it was more luck than anything else. There is no real way to predict when your team is going to catch fire. Sometimes it is just Murphy’s Law…where the bad has to turn good and vice versa. Other times, it really is just something fluky. Who could know that Pogo’s offense would go South…it had been rolling along pretty well all week. The goaltending was just average on a weekend where it had been solid all week. It all has to do with matchups….and the Rangers-Devils matchup that clinched the win for me yesterday played into my hands. I knew it would be low scoring but I was pleasantly surprised that it was a 1-0 game.

So do I feel sorry for Pogo? Yes, to an extent. It sucks to lose that way and believe me I have seen my team be the one that collapses like that. There is really not much to do but to pick up the pieces and go on to the next week. By the way he is still in 4th place, so all is not lost for the guy. He has a very good team and I am sure he will bounce back this week.

In head to head leagues, sometimes that weekend really makes a difference between winning and losing. You never really know when it will hit but at least a few times a year…a league sees some weird comebacks. It was sure nice to be on the good side of one and damn I am thankful to escape with the victory.

Give us your comeback stories…..because it seems there is always one or two in a season that make you say wow.  Good luck this afternoon ladies and gentlemen!
