This Day In Hockey History (1/8)

This week has just brought us some crazy moments from left, right, and sideways from “This Day”.  It is funny how this all works.  Yet it somehow does.  So of course we did not have far to look today for our moment.  We took a look at it via Twitter this morning and immediately knew this had to be it.  This one was just too easy not to mention.  So, here is today’s moment from 35 years ago and a little video to go along with it. 

 

 

January 08, 1976


Gil Perreault scored his 5th career hat trick, and Richard Martin scored a goal and three assists to lead the Sabres to an 8-5 win over the Canucks at the Aud. Sabres outscored the Canucks 6-4 in the third period.

January 08, 1971


Detroit Red Wings named coach Ned Harkness as the new G.M. of the team (replacing Sid Abel). Harkness gave up his duties behind the bench, naming Doug Barkley as the interim coach. Two days later, Barkley was officially named Head Coach.

At last it is Friday. The snow is falling outside but lightly so its not all that bad. As I take my morning meds, I think it is a good time as any to reveal today’s moment and video. After all, the internet connections has not frozen…….yet.

Larry Murphy’s 1000th point……

Larry Murphy picked up his 901st career assist to pass Bryan Trottier, giving him sole possession of 10th place on all-time in assists as the Red Wings won 5-3 over the visiting Anaheim Mighty Ducks.
