Fantasy Hockey ONE (11/14)

Well the news that the NBPA is to decertify will likely mean no NBA season this year. So what do you do NBA fans?  Well for fantasy basketball junkies, there is fantasy hockey daily, weekly, monthly, and midseason leagues at your disposal.  With Week 6 on the horizon, we mix in a little of everything here on The Program.

Last night was kind of a strange one in fantasy hockey with four games that really did not have much impact in fantasy circles.  It was kind of just one of those nights.  Tonight is a little different but there are only three games on the schedule.  This is what it looks like.

SCHEDULE TIME:

Monday, November 14, 2011

Teams Notes
Philadelphia at Carolina 7:00 PM | Gameday
Buffalo at Montreal 7:00 PM | Gameday
Tampa Bay at Winnipeg 8:30 PM | Gameday

The intrigue involves the matchups more than anything else.  Do keep an eye on guys like Jhonas Enroth and Eric Staal tonight.  They may be embarking on a good streak here.  Just call it a hunch.  Now it is time to put in a bet tonight and tie this into our fantasy picks thanks to Kevin from NHL Predictions.

Tampa Bay Lightning @ Winnipeg Jets – LIGHTNING TO WIN (-150)

(Note: I’m risking 1.50 units to win 1 unit)

The Jets have been pretty bad as of late, losing 5 in a row, including their latest a 2-1 loss to the last place Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night. The Jets have played 8 of their last 9 games on the road, as they returned home from a 7 game road trip with a loss to Florida before heading back on the road to Columbus. Winnipeg is just 5-9-3 on the season, and 2-3 at home this season. Tampa Bay had won three straight before being shutout on Saturday night in St Louis. The Lightning are 8-6-2 on the year, and 3-5-2 on the road. Comparing stats the Lightning are better in almost every category, including goals for and against per game, powerplay, and penalty kill.

Note that the Lightning have won 7 of their last 10 games, while the Jets have won just 3 of their last 10. The Lightning are 9-4 in their last 13 vs a team with a losing record. The Lightning have just owned the Jets (Thrashers) franchise lately, winning 12 straight meetings between these two teams. No doubt that Tampa Bay is the more talented team, and they are coming into tonight’s game playing well. The Jets find themselves in an awful position being away from home for such a long period over the last three weeks, losing 5 straight, and missing a number of starting defensemen. Lay the chalk on the road team tonight as the Lightning handle the Jets to go on to a win.

===============================================

Tampa Bay does seem to have guys that are due to break out.  Besides their awful offensive output of late is more due to droughts than system so we want people to keep that in mind.  Either way it shapes up to be a very interesting night in the NHL and do not forget our Team Turkey for Monday Night.  One never knows who it could be but it will be someone you wished were not on your fantasy hockey team.  Good luck everyone in Week 6!
