This Day In Hockey History (10/15)

It is not often you see a double hat trick in a game that results in a tie or loss but today we present a moment that shows just that.  Add in one of the players that got a hat trick and this becomes even more of a rarity.  Here is said gem from 24 years ago today…..

 

 

October 15, 1987


Dan Quinn scored the first hat trick of his NHL career, and added two assists in the Penguins’ 6-6 tie against the Rangers in Pittsburgh. Mario Lemieux also had three goals – the 8th hat trick of his career and two assists.

This moment goes back…way back.  Forty three years ago today and back in the era of black and white, this gem occurred.  I hear this guy was really good or something.

 

 

October 15, 1967


Boston’s Phil Esposito scored four goals in a game for the first time in his NHL career, as the Bruins won 6-2 over the visiting Montreal Canadiens. Fred Stanfield chipped in with four assists.

Derek King scored the fastest hat trick in New York Islanders’ history — three goals within a span of 1:18, in the first period of a 7-6 overtime loss to the Penguins in Long Island.
