This Day In Hockey History (9/19)

Here was a big trade in the NHL from 20 years ago.  That is right, I said 20 years ago.  It is almost fun to see these trades because when veterans are moved like this, it is usually for high end prospect talent.  This case was sort of part and parcel here but now the time is here to see just what this transaction involved today on “This Day”.

 

 

September 19, 1991

Edmonton traded Grant Fuhr, Glenn Anderson and Craig Berube to Toronto, in exchange for Vince Damphousse, Scott Thornton, Luke Richardson and goalie Peter Ing.

So is this what a Viking funeral feels like?  For Edmonton fans, it really was.  This moment happened 19 years ago today.  The burning flame did not come up with this one.

Pittsburgh Penguins beat the L.A. Kings 5-3 in an exhibition game at St. Petersburg, Florida before 25,037 fans — the largest crowd ever to see an NHL game (up until that time).
