Despite today’s latest tragedy, we learn that it is okay to mourn but even more important to cherish what is close and appreciate the happy times. There will be no pictures, videos, or dressed up links in this post but simply a message to every single hockey fan from us here at The Program.
It is going to be okay.
Well that sure sounds insane, given what has happened in the hockey world in the last several months but hear us out. Yes we will never forget the tragedies that have occurred (anyone that remembers 9/11 knows this) but yet there is a sense that the games will be played in less than a month. Think about that for a second, hockey will be played again, soon enough.
Without rehashing the other three deaths this summer, think about it for a second. What family sticks together better any community? That answer is the hockey family of course. As many have seen on Twitter, no matter the differences, the close knit feeling is what will ultimately help people persevere.
If you see anyone depressed, pick them up. Surely everyone feels the pain and this is the one time to remember the good times above any. For our fantasy hockey fans and GM’s, hey leagues are forming, live drafts are coming soon enough. This does not mean you are forgetting but you are doing the very thing the fallen would want you to do and that is let the game go on.
Right now this does not all seem possible and honestly the events seem just to keep coming with no end in sight. Somehow life will go on. We will all go on and that reflects a resolve that will never be broken in the hockey community. There is only one way to end this post and it is the simplest message I can give for all the fantasy hockey and hockey people out there.
