This Day In Hockey History (8/28)

Well it was a fun night riding out Irene but now life pretty much goes on for most of us.  We extend our prayers to those who had damage, lost power, or had worse happen.  Today we do slowly move on.  The moment that we got in for today happened 19 years ago and did have a touch of controversy.  At the time, no one believed that New Jersey would make this kind of gamble.  Yet they did and this was another great building block that led to the first Stanley Cup.

 

 

August 28, 1992


Hartford Whalers traded Bobby Holik and a future draft pick to New Jersey in exchange for goalie Sean Burke and defenseman Eric Weinrich.

August 28, 1997


Los Angeles Kings acquired Luc Robitaille from the New York Rangers, in exchange for Kevin Stevens. Robitaille had begun his NHL career with Los Angeles in 1986-87, but was traded following the 1993-94 season.
