Good morning…well afternoon to most of you. There are times where we have to dig up some of the old blogs just for some memories or for the hell of it really. So every Monday, we will throw up one or two blogs that either didn’t quite make it to print but should or just an old one that was kicking up dust in the back of the caboose so to speak. Taking The Night Off!!!!
Sometimes it is just better to take the night off. Today it just seems like a plan. So what’s a guy to do? Watch a bunch of hockey of course! There is nothing like being able to sit in front of a nice large screened tv, kick back with some cold ones, and watch the coolest game on Earth. I will particularly enjoy tonight’s doubleheader on HNIC. Both matchups appear to be something special and games I will watch intently.
First game up….Boston Bruins vs. Toronto Maple Leafs. This thing has more twists than a John Steinbeck novel. The best part of all is that this game will not be dull. Hell, I don’t even think Bruin or Leafs fans know exactly what is going to transpire. If Tukka Rask does start, I would not be surprised as he stopped 28 of 30 shots in a huge 5-2 win in Toronto in their last meeting there. With the injury to Tim Thomas, Rask needs to step up. Yes, Alex Auld was acquired in a trade but he really is not the answer in Beantown. Funny thing is Vesa Toskala has stepped up. His goalending has been solid not spectacular as the Leafs have won four straight. Nik Antropov has scored 5 times since I called him a turkey! Who knew it would have such an effect. Who will win? I say Boston 3-2 in a shootout…but you never know.
The back end of the doubleheader is the Pittsburgh Penguins traveling to Vancouver to face Roberto Luongo and the Canucks. Sidney Crosby takes on the final leg of the Western Canada tour against the best young goalie in the game. The Pens have won 6 of 7…and Luongo had an over 200 minute shutout streak before it was snapped by the Wild the other night. Luongo’s GAA is under 1 for the last 3 weeks and his save percentage is unbelievably high. The Pens will have their work cut out for them but Dany Sabourin is no slouch in net for Pittsburgh. Goals will be harder to come by than people think. Both teams are more than capable of playing a low scoring, hard contest. Who is gonna take it? I keep saying Pittsburgh 2-1…with Malkin tallying the game winner late in the third period.
So as I sit back in the comfort of my own couch…munching away and chugging down some beers…I will be watching the games knowing that I have the night off. Have a good night everyone!
