The Morning After:

Yesterday’s scores:

Avalanche 5, Red Wings 4 (SO)

Kings 3, Thrashers 1

Predictions record: 1-1

My 3 stars of the night:

1. David Jones, COL (2 Goals, 1 Assist)… Jones scored two huge goals in Detroit, including the all-important game-tying tally late in the third.

2. Ryan Smyth, LA (2 Goals)

3. Johan Franzen, DET (2 Goals)

Tonight’s Slate:

Devils @ Sabres, 7:00 ET

Islanders @ Capitals, 7:00

Lightning @ Canadiens, 7:30

Maple Leafs @ Penguins, 7:30

Predators @ Blackhawks, 8:30

Canucks @ Ducks, 10:00

Games of the Night:

New Jersey Devils (0-2-1) @ Buffalo Sabres (1-2-0)

7:00 ET… TV: Local Networks

2009/10 Season Series: Tied 2-2

Players to watch:

NJ- Travis Zajac

He played 23 minutes on Monday, and may have to log similar time in this one.

BUF- Tyler Myers

Last year’s Calder winner is an alarming minus-5 through three games.

Projected Goaltenders:

NJ- Martin Brodeur (2010/11 stats: 0-2-1, 4.11 GAA)

BUF- Ryan Miller (2010/11 stats: 1-2-0, 3.40 GAA)

Injury Report:

NJ- Anton Volchenkov (nose, questionable), Brian Rolston (lower body, doubtful), Bryce Salvador (concussion, out), Anssi Salmela (knee, out)

BUF- Jason Pominville (concussion, out)

Game Thoughts:

Last year, both of these clubs won their divisions behind Vezina nominees Ryan Miller and Martin Brodeur. Through three games each though, they are both struggling to hit the ground running here in 2010/11. The Devils will be short on bodies again, but signed Adam Mair and could get Volchenkov back. They view this as a must-win, and they usually play well in Buffalo. Go with the Devs in a shootout…

Prediction: Devils 3, Sabres 2 (SO)

Wednesday Game of the Week:

Nashville Predators (1-0-0) @ Chicago Blackhawks (1-1-1)

8:30 ET… TV: Local Networks

2009/10 Season Series: 4-2 Blackhawks

Prediction: Blackhawks 4, Predators 3

More to come from this game…

Lock of the Night:

Penguins over Maple Leafs… Ron Wilson’s Leafs are off to a nice 2-0 start, but will be playing on the road for the first time; they went 12-21-8 away from home last year. Pittsburgh is coming off a big win on Monday and Sidney Crosby is due for a big night; Sid has 32 points in 20 career games vs. Toronto.

The rest of tonight’s predictions:

Capitals over Islanders

Lightning over Canadiens

Canucks over Ducks
