Ryan again serves up breakfast….gotta wonder what the man cooks that is so damn good.
The Morning After:
Yesterday’s scores:
Islanders 6, Rangers 4
Blues 5, Ducks 1
Penguins 3, Devils 1
Blackhawks 4, Sabres 3
Flyers 4, Avalanche 2
Capitals 3, Senators 2 (OT)
Canucks 2, Panthers 1
Predictions record: 5-2
My 3 stars of the night:
1. Roberto Luongo, VAN (41 Saves, 1 GA)… ‘Bobby Lu’ was dominant against Florida, turning away 41 shots, including 19 in the third.
2. Blake Comeau, NYI (2 Goals, 1 Assist)
3. Marian Hossa, CHI (2 Goals)
Close but no cigar: J. Carter, PHI; D. Sedin, VAN; B. Johnson, PIT; M. D’Agostini, STL
Quick-hit Observations:
– Anaheim was out-shot 53-14 yesterday… 53 to 14! Their blueline has been hit hard with injuries, but even then I don’t think it would help them much. The team also hasn’t played with much discipline through three games. Could Randy Carlyle land on the chopping block if this doesn’t get turned around sooner rather than later?
– Psychologically, I thought Pittsburgh’s win was huge. After getting beat in all six meetings last year by New Jersey, the Pens took advantage of the Devils’ situation to nail down their first win of the year.
– I wouldn’t be surprised to see Niklas Hjalmarsson get suspended for two-to-four games for his hit on Jason Pominville last night. Pominville reportedly sustained a concussion.
– Will James Wisniewski face discipline for his inappropriate gesture to Sean Avery? (See below.)

Tonight’s Slate:
Avalanche @ Red Wings, 7:30 ET
Thrashers @ Kings, 10:30
Game of the Night:
Colorado Avalanche (1-1-0) @ Detroit Red Wings (2-0-0)
7:30 ET… TV: VERSUS, TSN2
2009/10 Season Series: 2-1-1 Red Wings
Players to watch:
COL- Matt Duchene
Duchene has had a solid start to his sophomore campaign with 3 points in 2 games.
DET- Henrik Zetterberg
Zetterberg has yet to contribute much on the score-sheet yet, but that should change tonight.
Projected Goaltenders:
COL- Craig Anderson (Last night @ PHI: 34 Saves, 3 GA)
DET- Jimmy Howard (2010/11 stats: 1-0-0, 0.00 GAA)
Injury Report:
COL- Peter Mueller (concussion, out), David Koci (jaw, out)
DET- Jonathan Ericsson (back, questionable), Justin Abdelkader (ribs, doubtful), Kris Draper (groin, doubtful)
Game Thoughts:
After taking last year’s finalists down to the wire in each of their first two games, Colorado makes their way to the Motor City to take on their rival, Detroit. The Wings are coming off two solid victories to kick off the year, including one in Chicago on Saturday. I think this will be another close game, but expect Detroit to come out on top in the end.
Prediction: Red Wings 4, Avalanche 3
The rest of tonight’s predictions:
Kings over Thrashers
