Up until this morning, it was a pretty dull last week or so in the NHL. Yes there was the R&D camps but honestly, that is more for show at times aside from the new tiebreak rule which finally rewards shootout wins a bit less. Here is what is going on today alone.
Today kicks off the four day World Hockey Summit in Toronto. Yes tickets are a bit on the pricey side but from very early reviews, it appears that the WHS will be worth it. Steve Yzerman is the honorary chair of sorts for this first time event.
Vincent Lecavalier will be sidelined around four weeks after having some minor knee surgery in Tampa. Its bad enough he had an awful season last year. Maybe it was the knee. Either way, this only puts a bit more pressure on him.
Cristobal Huet was loaned to a country more neutral than the style he plays in net. He will be a goalie in the Swiss Elite League this year. Au revoir Cristobal…see you next in France?
Justin Abdelkader gets a nice new two year deal from Detroit. He really could be the next Holmstrom according to some. I think he has potential to be a pretty good scorer in this league.
Bryan Little gets a deal done with Atlanta. Always a good player to watch but got lost in the shuffle last year. We will see what he does now with a little more $$ in the bank account.
If you believe this. For what its worth, Tomas Kaberle will be traded in March. You heard it here not quite first. Here is the TSN version of the story.
Honestly it has been a bit of a busy day. Add in the meeting with Devils brass and Bettman and you get eggroll. In the meantime, thank EJ Hradek and company for all the latest information and here is your moment of Hockey Zen.
