Break out the sirens! There is only one thing from the police blotter today….but it involves embezzlement, hockey, and a bad mom. Seriously it could be called a trifecta. Time for Police Blotter 2.
Police Blotter
— Woman in Arizona arrested for allegedly embezzling about 500,000 dollars from an Arizona High School Hockey Association. The scary thing is she had been stealing money since 2005 and she even secured a loan thru the AHSHA for $75,000 so there could be more money yet to be revealed. Mary Williams, hockey mom, has now traded in her minivan for prison stripes and could see a nice hearty jail sentence unless she pleads out.
Now this story was reported many ways yesterday and god if you see the mugshot, it is borderline scary. It makes you wonder how this did not get noticed sooner. Honestly, did she take only small amounts of money at first? Because securing a large money loan should have raised red flags a lot faster. This is an indictment more on the police and the Hockey Association itself.
Yes I understand it is in Arizona and there are more pressing issues there. However, a half million dollars IS A HALF MILLION DOLLARS! Maybe next time they can take less than five years to figure this out. To the hockey association, did you ever think of an audit every so often? Even government institutions do it, though it may not always go well. Also, I am sure now the hockey association will be doing background checks on all of its employees. Call it lesson learned for the police and hockey association. Now I depart with that mug and video. Yikes.
Thanks to the Arizona newspapers who were so fast on this story.
