Twas a nice shiny waterfall…..and only a few short days till Thanksgiving (my Christmas well because of the glorious amount of turkey). Turkey and hockey go perfect together…nothing like stuffing yourself silly and then laying on the couch watching the puck drop….ahhh priceless!
Time to get back a bit into the puck world. While the Tennessee Titans play the Denver Broncos tonight on Monday Night Football…hockey strikes back with The Battle of New York. There are also five other games including Larry Robinson night in Montreal…as always all the spectacle can be seen on the GDT. Special coverage begins at 6:30pm ET….it will be a special night for the Habs great and Devils assistant coach. He is one of the best defensemen I have ever seen play and could control a game like the greats. A great, great hockey mind, Robinson is truly a genius with heart.
Well one of the greatest gripes any coach or player has is the officiating and it seems even less people are fans of the men in stripes this year. There has been a laundry list of detractors incuding Canes GM Jim Rutherford, Devils Coach Brent Sutter, Ducks GM Brian Burke, etc…etc. Just as a fan of the game it seems certain refs have their way to call the game…and no rules or strict implementation will stray refs from being as subjective as possible. What is scary is that it isn’t going to change anytime soon. This leaves players, coaches, and GM’s scratching their heads. Nothing irks that more than the hockey fan though. I can remember sitting there watching a game in the den and just screaming at the top of my lungs…how can that be a call…then see a player get mugged and no call….YIKES! Basically last week’s Islander-Devil game was a great example of that…where a second penalty was called because a fan cursed at the ref and the ref thought it came from a player…how about that! I am hoping one day to see refs be held even more accountible for their actions but till then, I guess I’ll have something to talk about.
I did want to apologize for Hockey Around The Horn not making it to the masses yet…it is coming….just had a few snags in the production so to speak. Give it a few days and be patient. I figure…a few more ciders and it should be done…hopefully! This one is definitely the hardest one to judge yet…and people will be surprised at some of the answers needless to say.
Finally, I wanted to thank Pantsboy from The NHL Arena for sending me that USA Today….we were in the November 7th edition…so yes the little blog that could actually made it into a print newspaper…it is also online thru the end of the month….amazing but true. It has been a special month indeed for the blog here and the best is yet to come so be patient. Cider’s up!
