Monday Ice Water Cooler

The Program

We now present the Monday Ice Water Cooler and commercial free at that.  Last night, once again thanks to the Fantasy Sports Channel for all of their help, there was a very entertaining time had by all.  Last night we were doubly pleasured by having Kat Kealy from Press Box Perspective (HB too) and Cassie McClellan from Raw Charge.  A great time was had by all but I think the key in all of this is to listen to the nearly full hour archive for more insight on the NHL.  It was one of those no holds barred debates that had no one pulling any punches.  At the end of the night, everyone went to their neutral corners and admittedly had a spirited time along the way.  For the show archive go click on The Program link as seen HERE.

Some things did not quite make it on the show last night….as the show was ending…some breaking news was sort of coming on the wire that RDS had reported again that talks were ongoing between Simon Gagne and the Lightning.  Hat tip to John and Raw Charge by the way.  Last night, we touched on the peculiars of the Mikko Koivu contract, dealt with some minor vocal issues, and of course brought the hockey the way it was meant to be.

That blasted fighting issue even came up and it was interesting to get a plethora of contrasting and similar views all at the same time.  Let’s face it.  The interaction was fierce and nonapologetic.  That is just the way I like it.  We also learned quite a bit more about Tampa, Anaheim, LA, and more.  Also, there was even Pittsburgh talk too.  Lots of rumor and straight talk were flying around as we tackled players, team philosophy, and even why we cannot play the Circus Music for Tampa anymore.

Staring down the barrel that is NHL News this week, all eyes will be on Los Angles again in the unnerving discontent that is the Ilya Kovalchuk timeshare program.  Will something happen this week?  Does anyone care at this point?  Maybe there will be a few more signings this week and toss in a few rumors as well.  Oh and of course Mark Willoughby who read my mind this morning and posted this gem about Donald Fehr.  There is still something about that guy being in hockey that makes me feel more ill than after eating a whole mushroom.  Does that mean a fate worse than death?  I will leave that one to the reader.

Also, we would be remiss to forget about plugging Buddy Oakes and his great show Preds On The Glass.  Tonight at 8pm ET, Buddy has two guests and I am sure you know both very well.  One is Inside Hockey writer Michelle Kenneth (info here) and fashionista Kevin Weekes (I will take a ton of heat for this one).  Kevin Weekes does a little of everything from HNIC to NHL Network to NHL Live to even yes shopping and becoming a hope to many Preds fans.  This shapes to be a very informative but also fun show and as always if you are not following Buddy on twitter…go do so.  He may even offer a way to get to an In N Out Burger as well.  Seriously, there will be a lot of hockey talk on Buddy’s fast paced hour show tonight.  Do not miss it!

This week we also start our spotlighting on various blogs but starting off first with the hockey blogs from Bloguin.  Who will be first?  You will just have to find out.  Also on Wednesday, we may explore the Flyers sense that they are up against the world as well on the show.  This should be a good one.  So if you think the offseason will be dull, there is plenty of fine hockey shows to spice it up.  Coming later this week, may just be a list of hockey podcasts to wet your appetite.

For now, we must say goodbye but some big news is coming along gradually and work must be done.  See you later and of course Fantasy Hockey 101 coming later today.  Aloha!

Sincerely,

Chris Wassel
