There are times when people will ask, “Gee Chris, what do you do in the fantasy off season?”. Well the funny thing is this. There really is no off season for a “fantasy expert”. Honestly there is just some down time here and there where you can rest a bit. As the NHL Draft approaches, people start asking questions about their teams like the season just started. If you are in any kind of keeper league whatsoever, this is probably the time of year where you can catch most people napping or at the very least not paying as much attention to their team as they normally would.
It is June 7th and the draft is still a few weeks away. Yet, the questions keep pouring in. This time of year it is mostly all about trade scenarios as some leagues will have their “expansion drafts” right around the time of the real NHL Draft or at least somewhere close. Think about this though. June 25th and 26th is when the NHL Draft is and the next week…July 1st, is when the Free Agent Frenzy starts. If you are not at least circling these two dates on your calendar then you may need to have your head examined. A non-keeper league can be won without paying too much mind to these dates but a keeper or dynasty league cannot.
Simply this is like a short PSA (Public Service Announcement). Most of these keeper league cost money. The other cold reality is many do not win simply because they do not pay enough attention to their teams. Now I am here to tell you that you do not have to eat, drink, and sleep fantasy hockey to be successful at it. Honestly one just has to have a basic grasp and then build things from there. That is how most of us so called experts got started. Some of us went all out and multi purpose and some went into our own little niches. Either way, one thing has always held true and that is our commitment to the fantasy hockey player.
So on top of our Fantasy Hockey For Beginner columns, we will be gradually looking for ideas to specifically help the fantasy hockey fan. This very simplistic approach helps everyone involved. Yes we could throw all sorts of bells, whistles, and numbers out there but that just would not be our style. We will present statistics to you but continue to do so in a way that makes it easier to comprehend. What good is having information after all if you cannot use it properly? Exactly. It is one of the many things that Fantasy GM’s often complain about. There is all this great info out there but how to process it.
That is where we are going to come in. Our goal in the coming months will be to try and get you ready for your drafts and such. The question become what does the Fantasy Hockey GM need the most help with. Is it prospects, is it weekly moves, or is it something completely different? That is where you, the reader, come in. Any and all comments are welcome here. What do you need the most help in and our plan will be to tailor a weekly column that helps in that specific area. So have at it and let us know. We are all ears!
Sincerely,
Chris Wassel
