Fantasy Hockey 101: The Not Quite Top 10 RW’S

Well we’ve done LW’s and Centers and all that sort of thing. Now it is time to take a look at 3 Right Wingers that may just surprise this season. And now our choices…first we are going with a fairly safe one.

Milan Hejduk (RW) — Colorado Avalanche

Milan Hejduk - Colorado Avalanche

Hejduk had a bit of a comeback last season with 35 goals and 35 assists. After a dismal 2005-2006….skies could be the limit again for Hejduk…who is off to quite the start this season. 6 points in 5 games is awfully good…and with his talent on the Power Play and the emergence of Stastny, Wolski, and company….there is not reason why Hejduk can’t have a 90-100 point season and be back amongst the top 10 in RW’S again.

Maxim Afinogenov (RW) — Buffalo Sabres

Maxim Afinogenov - Buffalo Sabres

Afinogenov missed a third of last season with injuries but had 61 points in just 56 games…but is expected to lead the Buffalo attack this year with the departures of Chris Drury and Daniel Briere. He is off to a decent start and expect his point totals to pick up as he plays more divisional rivals. Afinogenov has a tendency to score in bunches so he may be a very hot commodity in deeper leagues or even as a stop-gap if your first or second starting RW goes down to injury. Him and Kotalik should be dangerous threats all season long.

Shane Doan (RW) — Phoenix Coyotes

Shane Doan - Phoenix Coyotes

I am firmly convinced Doan will not be a Coyote come the trade deadline. He has 4 points in 5 games already…and everyone knows the goals will come with Doan. The big question is where will he end up…as that will be a determining factor whether you want to take a flier on him late in the season. If you have him now…hold on to him. I can see Doan having a 75 to 80 point season if he can stay healthy…and that is pretty darn good for your fantasy team. The beauty is in the unknown and that is what makes speculating on a player like Doan especially fun.

Next week we will take a look at the defensemen….hey why not. Then after that…we will forge onward into the fantasy wilderness…going into parts previously unheard of….maybe..maybe not but either way, it will not be dull.
