Dispatches From The Edge Of Flyerdom: I wouldn’t be so sick if Hatcher played better!

Date Line; Feb. 1st.

o.k., I’ll admit it: I’m not just a little frightened, I’m terrified. Not Bin laden/suicide bomber terrified, but if I think about it, it kinda’ feels that way… not that exploring my psyche is something I should delve into in this article, or anywhere public for that matter, but I’m frightened.
Frightened by the prospect of Foppa playing for Detroit, or the Rangers… frightened that he will waive his no trade clause (word round the metaphorical camp fire is that he has in fact done that, but wants to keep it quiet), frightened that not only he will be traded away for far less than his real value (I know, many of you will ask “value? Peter Forsberg? Does he still play?), and very frightened that, where ever he goes, he will explode into the superstar player he really is (sans “C”)… I really like Forsberg, a lot… should he be traded? Common wisdom holds that yes, he should be, and with February 27th looming closer, I know that my fantasy of Foppa staying in Orange & Black (yes, and even contributing to this team) is fading away.
Why am I so insistent on wanting Forsberg to stay? Well, part of it is the fact that my entire head has been filled with gallons of snot for the past 3 days, causing all rational thought to sit trapped and fermenting in my gooey, mucousey, caramel center. The other reason is; a healthy Forsberg (yeah, yeah, I know) will be a key ingredient in getting into the free agency market next season… who wouldn’t want to play with a healthy (yeah! I said I know!) Peter Forsberg? I also understand the dual arguments of signing him to an extension vs. “the Foot”, and/or trading him if there is no extension vs. loosing him for nothing this summer.
Cap room? Get rid of Hatcher! Somehow this has to be done! Hell, I’d call it the Flyers #1 priority, i.e. fix the fucking Defense!!! The two headed Hathji monster has lost one of its slow moving expensive, long term noggins (unfortunately because of injury… I just wanted Rathji gone, not hurt!), and now, the second must go! Somehow, this has to happen… right? There is a way to get rid of him, isn’t there? I mean, at his contract price, let alone his inability to actually play Defense, makes him about as attractive to another team as this Ebola type head cold that has crippled me, so I’m wondering about the legalities of just “letting him go”… now, I’m not talking about just letting him get lost in a department store, or leaving him alone far, far out in the woods so he can’t follow the car home, I’m just saying, well… o.k., maybe those are the two best ideas I have… I’m sick, it’s hard to think clearly, especially when all I can really think about when I watch Hatcher play, is Chris Therien. I know, everyone keeps saying it; “Hatcher is working really hard! He’s our best D-man!”… hey, SHUT UP! Do you want other teams to know that? It’s one thing to know that when you’re playing against him (it takes about 2 shifts to see which side the pylon is favoring on any given night), but just who the hell is going to want to take him off of our hands when they are told “He’s the best the Flyers have to offer”? … the snake bites its own tail again! Like that shit bag of a band “Ratt” put it; “Round And Round”
… and besides, defending his slow, sub par play by saying “He’s the best Flyers D-man” falls pretty short when you shine this light on it: 3.5million dollars a year? He BETTER be the best Defenseman we have… it’s just too bad he’s not worth it!
Now, can we all just drop the Foppa talk and focus on “fixing the D”?

o.k., the game vs. the Devils starts in a few hours, let’s hope we can maybe get 2 millions worth out of Hatcher tonight…

… and wasn’t there a rumor about Detroit being interested in Hatcher? Or was that another fever dream?

Cheers! And good luck, -e-
