Two major injuries this weekend

There were to scary incidents this weekend. The Ben Fanelli incident has made every hockey website known to man.

I don’t want to rehash if it a clean hit or a dirty hit rather I want to talk about Michael Liambas. He laid the hit and I feel his past putting a negative light on him. All descriptions I have seen about him is that he’s an overaged goon. Everyone wants him to be done for the season and beyond.

Most accounts have Liambas deeply affected by the hit. He wanted to see Fanelli in the hospital after the game. He didn’t get the chance but it shows me it wasn’t a goon move on his part. Right now he’s suspended indefinitely.

I feel Liambas will be punished for Fanelli’s injuries and not the hit itself. Could have let up a little? Probably. Did he expect Fanelli’s helmet to fly off like it did? Probably not. I do think it was a smart move by the officials to show him the gate Friday for his own safety. He would have been a target for the rest of the night.

I wish the best for Ben Fanelli and hope his career isn’t over before it even started. The first thing though is making sure his injuries didn’t do any permanent damages.

The next incident involves Denver goaltender Marc Cheverie taking a skate into the inner thigh.

There’s no blame here, at least the skate didn’t hit the artery or it could have been real scary.
