KHL, NTV-Plus Announce “KHL Network”
Today in Moscow, the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), in partnership with Russian broadcaster NTV-Plus, announced the creation of the “KHL Network.” Starting October 1, the “KHL Network” will be available to satellite and cable operators in Russia and abroad.
In total, between 300 and 400 KHL games will be shown on the “KHL Network” during the 2009/2010 KHL season. Content for the “KHL Network” will include:
· Minimum of two live broadcasts each game day
· At least two tape-delayed broadcasts each game day
· Analytical and news programs
· Daily and weekly reviews of games, highlights, news reports, etc.
· Extensive use of video links between game venues and the “KHL Network” studios to ensure rapid coverage of news and developments around the KHL
Additionally, a joint editorial board, featuring members of the KHL and NTV-Plus, will be created to determine featured content on the new network.
“I am glad to announce that on September 15 the “KHL Network” received a certificate of registration. Creating the “KHL Network” is a very important step in the promotion of hockey and the development of the KHL,” said Alexander Medvedev, President of the KHL. “We undertake this project not for one year, but for the future of the League.”
“We are also very pleased that in the television space there will be a dedicated hockey channel,” said Dmitry Samokhin, General Director, NTV-Plus. “NTV-Plus already has specialized channels in tennis, basketball and football. The creation of a purely hockey channel makes perfect sense, as Russian hockey moves forward by leaps and bounds in terms of both sporting results and infrastructure development.”
