Anyone think they won’t find a way to squeeze Theo Fleury on the Flames roster? Fleury had a goal and an assist last night in a 5-2 win over Florida. Fleury scored on a breakaway with electrified the sold out crowd at The Saddledome. I do not know how he will do over an 82 game season but he definitely has come into camp focused and in shape. More importantly, his head is finally on straight and it is a really good thing to see.
Also we wanted to congratulate first overall pick and Islanders savior John Tavares on notching his first NHL point in the preseason. The assist came in a 3-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers last night. Matt Moulson scored the goal but it was Tavares’ pass that got the oohs and ahhs from the crowd. Go figure. This is a player that will be definitely watched heavily this season and an organization as well.
Everyone knows that Paul Kelly was fired way too quickly which is why when stories come out from some players (Shawn Horcoff) that the decision was made in haste….I think back to plays like MacBeth, etc. You were there. You voted on it and you said very little or nothing. Once it is done…it is done. Now you want to sit there and go gee I wish we had a little more time? Are you kidding me? Matters like these should be voted on by the entire players’ union as clearly the 30 executives on the NHLPA board do not know their back end from their elbow.
