Giguere is staying put

It is a happy time for Ducks fans!

Jean Sebastien Giguere signed a $24 million 4 year extension contract on Thursday. Giguere was due to become an unrestricted free agent on 1st July.

The deal will pay $5.5 million for the next two seasons and then $6 million in the third year and $7 million in the last year of the contract.

GM Brian Burke made the signing of Giguere his top priority and Burke certainly did just that.

Giguere has been with the Ducks since the 2000-2001 season but he was part of the Harford Whalers and Calgary Flames organisations and also spent some time in the minors as well.

Jiggy won the Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks a few weeks ago and his playoff record with the Ducks is 31-13. He didn’t play in the first 3 games of this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs due to his son’s ill health.

There was rumours around about him going to the East and the Los Angeles Kings but he is staying with the Ducks for the next 4 season.

I am personally very happy with this re-signing of Giguere and I hope he will continue to be the best goaltender for the Ducks for a very long time.
