Hey, its the aforementioned day off….a day to unwind and relax….HAH….not here. It is still 24/7/365 (and sometimes 366) hockey….and we’ll help get you caught up on the Reset.
Buffalo — Ottawa Series (Ottawa up 3-1)
Next game: Saturday 2pm EDT NBC
Can Buffalo continue the momentum tomorrow? Will Emery bounce back? These are a few of the many burning questions that ignites this series tomorrow. A Buffalo win makes this is a bonafide series. In Game 4, it wasn’t just the power play goal that Buffalo scored to seal momentum…it was the goal just 9 seconds in…which really wasn’t one of Emery’s finer moments. To give up a goal that quickly at home, is just deflating. I really do think it took Ottawa half the game to recover from that..as Buffalo added 2 more goals before Ottawa snapped out of it with 2 quick goals late in the second. The Heatley line went scoreless for the first time as well…despite the 15 shot barrage on Ryan Miller in the third. Miller really is the one thing that can extend the series for Buffalo…he has played really sharp…particularly in Ottawa. If he can keep that momentum going, the Sabres may be on to something. Check out the Buffalo and Ottawa boards for the latest on the teams.
Anaheim — Detroit Series (Tied at 2)
Next Game: Sunday 3pm EDT NBC
Just when Detroit thought they had a chance to put a skate near the throat of the Ducks….the Anaheim Power Play unit (more notably Teemu Selanne) woke up. Selanne’s 3 point night and Ryan Getzlaf’s GWG in the third led the way to a 5-3 Ducks win that tied the series at 2. This is now a best of three series…which seems to really have no rhyme or reason at times. The Ducks put only 22 shots on goal against Hasek and the Wings but scored 4 times. However, the quality scoring chances were still numerous. The Ducks survived a 39 shot bombardment by the Wings….(31 in the first 2 periods alone) as Giguere stood tall on two Detroit 5 on 3’s and an early 3rd period penalty on Scott Niedermayer. The PK for Anaheim is still quite a concern as they did give up 2 goals again. However, it is now a best of three series with no clue who is going to dominate from game to game. Maybe that is what makes the series so close to call…and most intriguing. For all the Ducks and Wings news…..come see their threads by all means.
