Playoff Hockey Roundup — April 21st

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water….oh crap…can’t use that…the Sharks won last night. Oh screw it……we got two playoff games today and here is all the juice on the Roundup.

Playoff Hockey Roundup — 4/21

Saturday Matinee

Calgary Flames @ Detroit Red Wings 3pm EDT NBC,CBC

Hasek can’t afford to lay down this afternoon.

Kiprusoff vs. Hasek. Both unconventional yet very successful goalies who have a chance to strut their stuff in this pivotal Game 5. The Flames can’t repeat the effort of Game 1 and 2….and the Wings can’t play like they did in Games 3 and 4. Either something is going to give or this series will be the status quo of the home team dominating. Calgary has scored a PPG in every game this series….and taken advantage of Hasek and his curious antics around the net. Iginla, Langkow, and Huselius have to step up…and the Wings need Datsyuk, Zetterburg, and Lidstrom need a big game to stop the Flames momentum or it may be another season of lost opportunity for the Wings. Game 5 is only a couple hours away….come see all the carnage on the GDT.

The Nitecap……

Vancouver Canucks @ Dallas Stars 8pm EDT CBC,VS

Turco tries to stave off the Canucks and elimination again.

The battle of the goalies as Luongo and Turco tussle for Round 6. The first game saw 9 goals combined..and yet both teams have a grand total of 9 goals in the last four games. Turco and Luongo have battled to a stellar 1.39 GAA each in the first five games….both have their save percentages right around .950. I have to say this is one of the better goalie duels I have seen in about 3 or 4 years. The key to the game will be who can convert their power play opportunities….Vancouver’s PP went kinda south on them in Game 5…but Dallas scored the lone tally of the game on theirs…and had many other glorious scoring chances. If the Sedin twins can get back in this series offensively…this may end tonight…then again it may go awhile….as both these teams remember Game 1 well. Come see all the nail biting drama all on the GDT.

And for all the latest playoff news and notes as well as all things NHL…..THE NHL ARENA is the place to be.
