And just like that…Gomez gave them life.
The Devils reminded me this season more than any one of them….that they may be more like that black cat with nine lives than anyone thinks. Just when you give them up for dead….something happens that transforms the team enough to pull out a victory. Basically do not turn the tv off when they are playing or for the faint of heart, you may want to just because it will drive you crazy in excitement one way or the other.
So what does a 4-3 OT win that evens a series do to Devil fans??? Well here’s a quip or two.
BlueyeDevil: i should NOT be freaking out this early in the postseason! that was gut wrenching! i told my honey that i wasn’t feeling too good about our chances in OT; i’ve never been so happy to be wrong! and yeah, it IS about time Gomez showed up! that whole line has been absent since game 1. Pat Burns says if the we could win (and i love that he constantly referred to the Devils as “we”), then it’s a best of 3 series and he likes our chances. from his mouth to Lucifer’s ears!!!
Here’s another one….
Mr.Iceman23: From about 4 mins left in the 3rd to the goal that won the game, my heart was pounding so hard, that Grinchy and my wife asked if I was alright. lol My face was blood red and I couldn’t quit tapping my feet and legs. THAT is playoff hockey at it’s best right there and as much as I was hoping the Devils won, that game was probably the best I’ve seen all year. Maybe it was because of what was at stake, but holy cow. There were a few penalties uncalled again, but it was a much better game than the previous 3. That game was awesome.
That is playoff hockey!!! When Gomez blocked the shot….raced up the ice and finally SHOT THE DAMN PUCK….it went in….and a smile rang through from ear to ear even though it was just a replay. This game gave the Devils life even when they seemed to lose it midway thru. Brodeur stopped 15 shots in the third and OT and may have played some of his best hockey in the playoffs so far. Zach Parise netted 2 more goals to give him a playoff leading six on the postseason. Don Cherry said Saturday nite, “Parise will be a star for the Devils..maybe more than Elias.”
Will this be the turning point of the series? Only time will tell. One thing is for certain, the Devils saved their season just in the blink of a cat’s eye.
