Release the hounds, it is the Monday Ice Water Cooler. Last night was a very interesting night on the podcast as beforehand, I personally enjoyed two very high quality podcasts before hand. The CCPT radio show on at 6pm and then the debut of Respect Hockey’s show at 7pm ET. CCPT is on Blog Talk Radio and Respect Hockey is on Talkshoe. If you have not checked these two fine shows out, I suggest you do so now.
On last night’s show…go to the The Program link as shown HERE, we recapped the draft and set up the table for the Free Agent Frenzy. Also we took a deeper look at why there were not quite as many trades as the consensus thought there would be. Guys like Tomas Kaberle, Marc Savard, and even Sergei Gonchar are still in their current locations for now of course. Last night we even applied god awful 80’s Devils songs to current headlines. Yes the jumbo scoreboard burned a little at The Rock but it is all okay now. The key point here is it was the tower screen just to clarify. Some smoke got into the building but within minutes, the all clear was given.
We also rehashed some more “CAP” issues for teams. Hey just because the cap went up to 59.4 million, it does not mean teams are still feeling the heat. There was talk of rumors and even overalls as well. Yes even In N Out was mentioned several times throughout the show which means they need to build one in the NYC area already. You would be surprised at how many hockey fans enjoy that restaurant.
The other prevalent question is who will ultimately sign Dan Hamhuis? Let me be honest here as Hamhuis should probably not be generating this many headlines but here it goes. The Preds could not sign him or did not want to and traded his rights to Philly. Philly tried their hand in this and could not sign him so they traded his rights to Pittsburgh. So who is next? Does Pittsburgh ultimately sign him and how much do they wind up paying? The original estimate of 4 years, 17 million is looking more right everyday but some still think he could get more dollars.
Also a big hat tip to the fine folks at Five Hole For Food. All their hard work hopefully pays off this week. So if you are in Canada or even if you are not, check out their cause. People are really diving head first into this cause and some of the best are in on it as well. One person that starves is one too many. Hopefully someday this can expand into the States.
Please note this week there will be some special podcasts along the way everyone. Respect Hockey will be on from 2 to 4pm on July 1st along with a PD Live Chat like they did last year. The Hockey Guys will be on, RLD will be on, Whats Brewin will recap Day 1 from 9 to 11pm. Sports Talk Soup will have it covered for the late night. Do not worry, we will wedge ourselves somewhere inbetween….somehow….some way. This really could be the last busy time of it for hockey for a while. We want you to know that YOU, the hockey fan, will be covered.
Also, as announced, our podcast keeper league is taking shape. If you want in, just send a facebook message, email, or even text message if need be. This will be a league that requires some thought and quick decisions. Have what it takes? Then get in there and fight!
Lastly the rumors will still be flying and go check out what Spector is up to. For your non-stop top notch credible insight, the big man is where it is at. Maybe some of these rumors will even pan out…who knows. At any rate, enjoy the Monday and FH 101 is coming later today as always. Au revoir.
