This Day In Hockey History (6/14)

Today is Flag Day.  It is time to see what happened on a Flag Day from years ago.  This one is a sad one for Devil fans…and still a bitter pill to swallow but for Ranger fans, this is the one that has to last a lifetime.  Just think, it was 16 years ago today already.

Vancouver’s Kirk McLean set an NHL record for most minutes played in one playoff year (1,544), as the Canucks lost 3-2 to the Rangers in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. McLean broke Ron Hextall’s record of 1540, set with Philadelphia in 1987.  And yes, the Rangers won their first Stanley Cup in 54 years with the victory.
