Fantasy Hockey ONE (12/21)

Sometimes in fantasy hockey, it is better to be lucky than good.  Jason Labarbera was a little bit of both last night in their win over the Florida Panthers.  The funny thing is he was not even our Fantasy POTN.  Who was it?  Well let’s find out…..

============================================

FANTASY POTN:

Marian Gaborik, RW, New York Rangers — Gaborik made the most of his few opportunities last night as he had three shots and what would be considered three scoring chances.  Every scoring chance led to a goal as the Rangers scored three times in the third period to win 4-1 over the New Jersey Devils.  Gaborik ended the night with two goals, one assist, three SOG, and most importantly the GWG.  The Right Winger clearly has the talent and he is heating up again which makes fantasy owners very joyful this holiday season.

INJURY GOOD NEWS:

Claude Giroux, C/RW, Philadelphia Flyers — Giroux is back and maybe a bit early, but back nonetheless.  This news came in from Philly beat writer Anthony SanFilippo:

Claude Giroux will play tonight… If HBO mica hooked up to his shoulder pads are any indication

Obviously get him in your lineup right now before press time.  After all, the player only has 39 points which is good for a tie for the league lead.

SCHEDULE TIME:

Wednesday, December 21, 2011

Teams Notes
Phoenix at Carolina 7:00 PM | Gameday
Montreal at Chicago 7:30 PM | Gameday
Philadelphia at Dallas 7:30 PM | Gameday
St. Louis at Colorado 9:30 PM | Gameday
Detroit at Vancouver 10:00 PM | Gameday
Tampa Bay at San Jose 10:30 PM | Gameday

It has the makings of a very intriguing schedule tonight.  Please note the Detroit and Vancouver game for your viewing pleasure along with Montreal and Chicago.  This has the makings to be a very good six pack of games on Hump Night.

====================================

KEEP AN EYE ON:

Jonathan Toews, C, Chicago Blackhawks — There is a reason why he is a leading MVP candidate because whether its clutch scoring, scoring itself, faceoffs, or solid two way play…there are few doing it better right now.  Toews could have a field day tonight playing a team trying to go more up tempo with their playing philosophy.  It does not seem like anyone could really stop Toews right now on this hot streak, it may really be if he stops himself.  Look for a multi point night.

Luongo Vs. Howard (VAN VS. DET) — Whomever wins the goalie matchup will carry the night.  It is that simple when you put two high octane offenses against each other.  The Sedin Twins on one side with Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg leading separate lines.  Yes Vancouver has the “All American Line” of sorts that mixes in with the Sedins from time to time but Detroit’s Top Six may be just a hair better fantasy wise on this night.  That being said, goaltending will make the ultimate difference.  Expect a little of everything in this one and the better night from Luongo.

Dan Boyle, D, San Jose Sharks — We will see if Boyle starts showing his form from the last few years as he is getting better from a broken foot suffered early in November.  If he does, tonight may be the perfect time to do it against his former team.  Tampa comes in limping along and this is a game ripe for fantasy owners who have Sharks on their roster.  Expect Boyle to log more ice time in all three phases (PP, PK, EV) and get on the scoresheet once if not twice.

Good luck everyone and do not forget The Program is on at 8pm ET with the MidSeason Fantasy Edition.  See you then.
