We are going to do this weekly until September as a way of what we have learned this week in hockey.
— A special thanks to Buddy Oakes for the NHL Awards show lineup. Read his morning blog right here.
— Rumors from hacks always get way too much press…..oh that Brodeur for Semin rumor? Just too silly.
— We tossed around some of our award winners last night on The Program
— A special thanks to Ryan Kennedy last night…go check out his stuff on THN
— The Hershey Bears spottted the Texas Stars a 2-0 series lead then dominated the rest of the way to win their 11th Calder Cup in six games. Game 6 really was not competitive at all either as Hershey won easily 4-0.
— Even at 35, Todd Bertuzzi can still find work. A not half bad season results in a two year deal with Detroit. Maybe it was that 11 pts in 12 playoff games that did it.
— The trade rumor debate swirls as we are just 8 days from the NHL Entry Draft in Los Angeles. Nathan Horton joins the growing pool of players likely to be dealt according to several Florida newspapers.
— Teams still want to call Edmonton about that #1 pick but they are not biting…at least not yet.
— The season finale of the turkeys are coming next week just in time to recap the NHL Awards as well. Double turkey duty.
— Should Alex Mogilny get in the Hall. Our good buddy Rick will give you his opinion.
— The NY Post and CBC even made a big deal of that “rumor”. Come on….you know better. Its sad that shameful yellow journalism knows no bounds in this era.
My parting shot is simply this. For every Pittsburgh fan who is rejoicing about Mike Yeo becoming the Houston Aero head coach. At least feel a bit sorry for Houston, just a little. However for the Penguins, who will run the Power Play duties now and how will they get Malkin and Crosby and company to score a bit more there? That may be the bigger question. With that, time to jet.
