The Good, Bad, And Ugly Of Johnny Mac

Obviously this will be updated a bit after the 2pm press conference but thanks to the New Jersey Devils site of nhl.com for being so fast as always.  Here are some of those memories…..and like I said more later…..and yes these are in order.

You expected a Ranger clip for ugly? Nah that is beyond ugly!   More to come……..

******UPDATE: 3pm ET********

So it is official.  John MacLean is the head coach.  Larry Robinson is his top assistant.  Scott Stevens will work in the minors and Chris Terreri is still the goalie coach.  Other assistants will be named later.  This is not really a surprise but it seems that the comments coming from this press conference seem to indicate to me and several other Devils writers as well that Ilya Kovalchuk is not resigning with New Jersey.  That seems to be the early vibe.

Obviously the Therrien reports were quite unfounded.  The Devils did indeed speak to Mike Haviland as was reported after the Stanley Cup Finals had finished.  This clearly is Lamoriello’s last hurrah along with Marty Brodeur as well.  Good luck Johnny Mac.  This will not be easy but MacLean has earned this.  Let us see what he can do before we pass judgment.

In a sort of related note but the first trade of rights.  RFA Jaroslav Halak is now property of the St. Louis Blues.  RDS broke it and a slew of tweeters have confirmed along with Bob MacKenzie, Greg Wyshynski, and many others.  It will be interesting to see what the return is.  So its turned out to be a pretty busy day when it did not look like much would happen.

*****UPDATE 3:30pm ET******

Tom Gulitti of Fire And Ice now reports that Mario Tremblay will be special assignment coach and Tommy Albelin may be an asst. coach in Albany but not with the big club.

That is all.
