Now For Something Completely Different!

To say it was hot would be an understatement.  As the mercury soared above 100 before noontime, I thought to myself it would really be bad if the power went out.  I should have shut up as five mintues later the power did go out.  Seven hours later and finally power did come back on.  The temp hit 107 unofficially and may have been hotter here for all we know.  What matters is that the food is still good and so is the beer in the fridge.  Hey this is important in a heat wave.  Also this is essential when trying to talk hockey.

So let’s turn the heat up a little more, shall we?  There are fantasy hockey leagues taking shape already.  The IHFDL is rocking and rolling with ten members and should be something for the ages.  It just seems to me that the fantasy hockey leagues coming up are going to be tougher than usual this season.  Why?  I do not know.  However, the competition is already ratcheted up.  The goals this year are to keep a high level of activity in every league I run or help run.  The fun in it all is the following.  Even in a higher level league, no one ever quite knows who is going to win before it starts.

I have won many a money league when I had no business winning it on paper.  I am not the world’s foremost expert nor will I ever claim to be.  There is a level of luck that cannot be measured counterbalanced by a certain amount of skill.  Remember this advice.  If you do not try, you do not win.  Really it is simple but it is so true.  Do not sleep on it in any league, it will bite you in the proverbial rear.

Speaking of sleeping on it, that is what Ilya Kovalchuk is doing.  Do not worry about it.  When he makes his decision, world markets will tremble in fear (we kid, maybe).  There were a few signings today and most noticeable the Jaroslav Halak signing which at 3.75 million per over four years is near genius to some.  It is a solid signing.  Obviously other dominoes like Nabokov and Turco with others are going to take a little longer as well.  I guess pour some cold ones and stay awhile.  It may be the best way to go.

Sorry for the shortness of this, but I do know one thing, the columns will come fast and fierce and there will be a nasty show tomorrow night.  It will be full of venom but full of life as well.  I hope everyone can join in at 8pm ET for the fireworks!  Have a great night and stay cool out there!
