Flyer-Land….OH MY?

If you’re a Philadelphia Flyers fan, then you are obviously well aware of goaltending controversies, problems, and injuries.

This past season, the Flyers had Ray Emery, Brian Boucher, and Michael Leighton all get hurt at one point or another; and yet, the team found a way to advance all the way to the Stanley Cup Final and lose in six games to the mighty Chicago Blackhawks.

Going into the 2010-11 season, the Flyers have both Leighton and Boucher in the fold. That may look good on paper considering the tandem enjoyed success both in the regular season (at least Leighton had a solid regular season) and obviously, in the playoffs.

However, if you’re a Flyers fan, is that really the tandem you want for next season? Is it a tandem that you can trust to win you big games? Is it a pair that will get you back into the postseason and not allow costly goals (the goal Leighton allowed in overtime in Game 6 is an example of that)?

UFA goaltender Marty Turco is still available, and to be honest, I’m surprised that the Broadstreet Bullies haven’t pushed harder for him. Yes, Turco does not have a great playoff track record but with the team he could have in front of him in Philly, maybe that would change.

Turco would give the Flyers a ton of wins during the regular season and is someone who could play a lot of games because of the durability he has. It sounds like a no-brainer type move that the team should make.

Because it’s Philadelphia, though, questions in net would be nothing new.
