Okay what to do in the dead dog days of summer? Yes summer starts officially today although its been hot enough the past couple days to really pay no mind to the increasing heat. When it hits 100, let me know. As crazy as this sounds, it really is a good time for fantasy owners to start taking a look at all these crazy trades and movements and goings on. If you do not think so, then you are probably in one of those head to head leauges that has no keeper settings. For that we apologize. However, even if you are the casual fantasy hockey nut, you may want to keep in tune with what will be going on the next few weeks.
Inside Hockey and I are coming up with the groundwork of redoing the fantasy hockey part of their site. It will truly be for the fans and for people who do not want to wade into pages and pages of numbers just to get what they need to out of it. There will be a league for that and for the experts. Rumors are this league has a rulebook that makes War and Peace look like a bloody novella. That draft is just about a month away and there will be plenty of updates as the time approaches. There will be some of the same fun columns you enjoy here plus a couple new things you have not seen.
As for the homestead err this site. Fantasy Hockey 101 will go on weekly and do not forget the turkey season ender is Thursday. Its a sad day for the turkeys. All year they have berated players and now they will get some vacation time to hang out in the shade. However, we have been inspired by the turkeys and will have our best five moments from the podcast fantasy league sometime in the next week or two. This should be a good one even for the ones that probably will not be with us next year as we educate the world on fantasy hockey one person at a time.
All kidding aside, expect another 20-30 trades this week up until just before July 1st. From there, the signings take over obviously and then fantasy owners will start to have some idea of what to expect for teams, players, chemistry, etc. The key is just taking it all in. Do not become mesmerized by it though. If you try to start predicting who will go where, etc….then that becomes a considerable problem.
So stay at the ready fantasy hockey fans, things will get better. In the meantime, we hope that all the fathers out there had a very good Fathers’ Day yesterday. Stay safe and same time next week, we will crank out the FH 101 once again.
